What is a cheesesteak sandwich?
A cheesesteak sandwich is made up of thinly sliced steak meat, usually a ribeye, melted cheese all in a hoagie roll. Try my crunchy cheesesteak sandwich recipe with bell peppers. It has all the classic ingredients with the addition of some crunchy peppers. Adds flavor, texture and color.
The most common cheesesteak sandwiches are known as a Philly Cheesesteak. There are two slightly different recipes. One recipe calls for melted slices of provolone cheese while the other uses cheez whiz. Diced onion and mayo are the other necessary ingredients to complete this sandwich.

Ingredient List for Cheesesteak Sliders.
- Ribeye steak: if available, I highly encourage to purchase pre-sliced ribeye steak.
- Onion: a yellow onion will be sautéed on the griddle and mixed in with the meat. Adds savoriness and crunch to the dish.
- Provolone cheese: mild, buttery cheesiness to the cheesesteak sliders
- Slider buns: Kings Hawaiian sliders have the perfect sweet and savory bite and are perfect for small servings.
- Steak seasoning: adds just the right balance of salt, pepper and herb seasoning to compliment the ribeye.
Step 1: Prep the ingredients for our cheesesteak sliders.
This cheesesteak recipe requires very little prep work.
For this recipe, I went with a pre-sliced ribeye steak. If your local grocer does not have any, ask the guys behind the meat counter to slice it for you. Dice a yellow onion and set aside while you preheat the griddle. For the rolls, I used Kings Hawaiian original buns. Take them out of the packaging and cut them in half. That’s it for prep work! I told you this one will be easy.
Recipe Tip
- Prep everything beforehand. This recipe comes together very quickly and will be much easier to make if you have everything prepared before.
Dad’s Seasonings
Must have grillin seasonings!
Step 2: Cooking the perfect cheesesteak sliders.
I making these sliders on my griddle but you can just easily make these in a skillet or in the event. Preheat the griddle to medium-high heat and lube it up with your favorite olive oil. Drop the freshly diced onions on the griddle first.
On the other side of the griddle, drop the shaved beef. Using a spatula, seperate the meat so it doesn’t stick together. Generously season the meat with Dad’s Steak Seasoning. It has great garlic and herb flavors that enhance the natural taste of beef. Flip the meet on the griddle every minute or so to get it cooked on all sides.
After 3-4 minutes, when the onions become translucent and start to soften, mix them with the beef. Shape the meat and onion mixture into the size of the sliders loaf and cover everything with slices of provolone cheese. That’s how simple this cheesesteak sliders recipe really is!

Place the top half of the slider buns over the meat and cheese. The heat from the griddle will melt the cheese and soften the buns. That’s my trick for the perfect sliders! Spread some mayo on the bottom half and place it on the griddle to toast it. When it’s golden brown, remove and it’s it’s time to assemble.
Using a wide spatula, pick up the entire block of beef, cheese and top slider buns and place it on the toasted bottom half. Separate into individual pieces, serve and enjoy!
